Drowns
Child listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital
On July 26th, 2011 at approximately 2:20 PM, Darke County Sheriff’s
Deputies along with the Pitsburg Fire Department, Arcanum Rescue and
Careflight were dispatched to 4189 Swinger Road in reference to a
possible drowning.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 22 month old child was playing
near a private pond while other children were swimming. The adults
discovered the child was missing and started a search. During the
search, it was discovered that the child was in the pond without a life
jacket. The Darke County Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call and
with the aid of a Darke County 9-1-1 Dispatcher, CPR was initiated.
The child was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital and later to
Children’s Hospital. The child is listed in critical condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
