Republican Women host Candidates

GREENVILLE─Darke County Republican Women held their regular monthly meeting recently during which they heard from some of the Republican Candidates who will be appearing on the November 8 ballot.

The candidates who were invited included Jesse Green who is seeking election as Judge of Darke County Municipal Court,  incumbent Republican Michael Bowers is seeking reelection as Greenville Mayor,  and incumbent Nancy Myers is seeking reelection as Greenville City Auditor.  Greenville City Council hopefuls are Clarence Godwin to represent Ward One and  incumbent John A. Baumgardner  to represent Ward Four.

Each candidate was allowed to address the group and then answered questions from the audience.

Candidate for Municipal Court Judge Jesse Green spoke extensively of his military service and experience, his family life and some of the changes he would make in the Municipal Court. He promised to be a lawyer’s judge and also to create a user friendly court atmosphere. He said, as a judge, he would address the two probation programs and also attend pre-trial sessions.

Mayor Bowers touched on the business and job accomplishments during his time as mayor and thanked the Republican women for their help in the Party and community.

Auditor Myers praised her co-workers at City Hall, thanked the women for their help over the years and  promised to continue the outstanding performance of the City Auditor’s office.

Clarence Godwin introduced himself to the group, spoke of his family, explained his background and why he is running for Greenville City Council.   He pledged to do his best to represent the First Ward on Council and talked about how he wanted to move to Greenville after growing up in rural Darke County.

Ohio State Representative Jim Buchy (R-77) was asked to present Issue 2 and to explain why its passage  is so important to Ohio’s fiscal health. Buchy gave a synopsis of the factors that led to the situation triggering the passage of Senate Bill 5 and the rationale behind it.  He answered questions and explained that some of the current misconceptions regarding the Issue.

The Darke County Republican Women’s Club meets on the second Monday of every month (except January and August). Meetings are open to the public and include an optional dinner. The November 14 meeting will feature Bruce Mikesell speaking about self-defense.
