Fatal accident at Hwy 127 & Hollansburg-Arcanum Rd
On April 3, 2012 at approximately 10:40 AM Darke County Deputies, along with New Madison Fire, Arcanum Rescue and CareFlight were dispatched to the intersection of US Route 127 and Hollansburg-Arcanum Road in reference to a two vehicle serious injury accident.
Preliminary investigation revealed a light blue 2004 Dodge Caravan driven by Corinne S. Abou, 34, Arcanum, Ohio was westbound on Hollansburg-Arcanum Road at the intersection of US Route 127. A black 2007 Buick Rendezvous driven by Brian P. Delk, 52, New Madison, Ohio was southbound on US Route 127 approaching the intersection of Hollansburg-Arcanum Road. Abou failed to yield at a clearly marked stop sign colliding with Delk’s vehicle. Delk’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway causing it to rollover.
Delk was pronounced dead at the scene. Abou was transported to Wayne HealthCare by Arcanum Rescue. CareFlight’s response to the scene was cancelled.
The Darke County Coroner’s Office and the Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction team also responded to the scene for further investigation.
US Route 127 from State Route 503 to Hursch Road was completely closed for approximately 4-1/2 hours during the accident investigation.
This accident marks Darke Counties third fatal accident on Darke County roadways in 2012.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
