Fire at Fram
February
13, 2012
At 2304
hours on Monday February 13, The City of Greenville Fire Department was
dispatched to a fire alarm activation at the Fram Group facility at 851
Jackson
St.
Fire crews
found that a vent stack from a cure oven on a paint line had been on
fire. As personnel
were completing extinguishment
of this fire, plant personnel notified them that another machine was on
fire. This machine
was left operating when plant
personnel evacuated the building for the fire alarm activation from the
stack
fire.
Paper media
used in the process of manufacturing automobile oil filters had ignited
and
quickly spread throughout a conveyor system and adjacent materials. Firefighters
brought the fire under control
quickly after deploying hose lines; however, the large building filled
with
smoke that necessitated an extensive ventilation process that took over
an
hour. Damage is
estimated to be at least
$60,000.
