Sixteen “write-in” candidates for Central Committee

A first time for this position...

GREENVILLE -- “I just want to help strengthen the party – because I care.” was the response of Joe LeMaster as he filed a form with the Darke County Board of Elections (DCBOE) to become the write-in candidate for the Darke County Republican Central Committee. LeMaster, if elected, will become the representative for Arcanum B precinct.

Several Darke County residents arrived at the DCBOE shortly before the 4 p.m. deadline to file as write-in candidates.

“This is the first time we have had write-in candidates for central committee.” said Becky Martin, Director of Board of Elections. “It will mean a new line being added on the computers. A keyboard will come up and people will type in the name they want to vote for.”

Being a write-in candidate means that the candidate’s name does not appear on the ballot. In order to receive votes, their name must be “written-in” on the line provided.

“I just want to become more involved in the Darke County Republican Party.“ said Ron Christman who will be representing  Twin Township, Gordon and Ithaca precinct if his bid is successful.

“I have not been happy with some of the things the party does, I would like to see changes from the local level up to the top.” was Bob Downing’s response when he was asked why he was running to represent Harrison West and Hollansburg.

“I want to become more involved and just do what I can to help.” stated Dean Burk as he filed his petition to represent Brown Township and Ansonia.

Martin said that 16 Darke County voters filed to run as write-in candidates in the March 6 primary election.

Central Committee members are chosen in the primary election held in even numbered years. There is a member elected to represent each precinct in the county. Those 43 members make up the central committee of each major party in the county.
