State Senators Beagle and Lehner...
Funding announced for Aviation Heritage Project
June 8, 2012

COLUMBUS– State Senators Bill Beagle (R – Tipp City) and Peggy Lehner (R – Kettering) have announced that $3 million in Clean Ohio Revitalization funding has been awarded to the Dayton Aviation Heritage Redevelopment Project.  The project site is located at 2701 Home Avenue in Dayton and was the location of the original Wright Airplane Factory.

Future plans for the site will incorporate the historical buildings as part of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park. The western portion will be developed into an advanced manufacturing industrial park.

“The Wright Brothers and their pioneering efforts in aviation will forever be linked to the Dayton region,” Beagle said. “Their impact remains strong into today as our area is a worldwide leader in aerospace research and development.”

Redevelopment of the site was deemed a priority in 2007 in accordance with the CitiPlan 20/20 Economic Redevelopment Strategy.  The Clean Ohio grant will assist in a variety of acquisition, demolition, and remediation projects.

“Not only does this Clean Ohio grant allow us to pay homage to the Wrights’ work and innovation, but it also gives us a new stage to grow jobs and develop our economy,” said Lehner.  “The construction of a new industrial park will help in luring industry to Ohio and expanding opportunity for area residents.”

Home Avenue Redevelopment, LLC has acquired a purchase option for the site.

Senator Bill Beagle serves the people of Ohio’s 5th Senate District, which includes Miami County and portions of Montgomery and Darke Counties. Senator Lehner represents Ohio’s 6th Senate District which includes a portion of Montgomery County.  She currently serves as Chairwoman for the Senate Education Committee.
