Ohio foreclosures surpass 10K in May
Thursday, June 14, 2012

The rate of foreclosures in Ohio last month was among the worst in the nation, a monthly report says.

One in every 495 housing units in Ohio had a foreclosure filing in May, ranking the state No. 7 in the nation, according to Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac Inc.    Georgia, with a foreclosure filing against one in every 300 homes, had the highest rate in the country.

The national average foreclosure filing rate is one in every 639 housing units, RealtyTrac said.

RealtyTrac measures foreclosure filings as default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions.

Ohio totaled 10,359 foreclosure filings in May, up about 6.1 percent from April and about 23.6 percent from May 2011. Throughout the U.S., foreclosure filings were up 9.1 percent from April and down 4.2 percent from May 2011 to 205,990.
