Darke County Republican Party
Personal Touch for Calling
By Lyn Bliss

GREENVILLE – The Darke County Republican Party has added a personal touch to those calls you get asking for your support. Since February of this year, Darke County residents and elected officials have been making phone calls on behalf of the Ohio Republican Party.

This past Saturday, Representative Jim Buchy (R-84), Representative Richard N. Adams (R-80) and Darke County Commissioner Mike Stegall spent their Saturday morning helping make calls.

“We have had about 70 different people help with the effort during the course of the year,” said Lyn Bliss, coordinator for the program, “With about 5 regulars that we can always count on to be there. They are who make it easier to keep the program going. They are super!”

Calling was held at a private Darke County location until Darke County Republican Headquarters opened in September at 110 North Broadway, Greenville. A voice over internet protocol (VOIP) system is used. This requires a special server to be plugged into a high speed internet connection. When connected, ten phones are available for callers to use.

“When we started, November 6 seemed so very far away, and it was not as easy to make sure each phone was manned for each session. Now, the election is speeding toward us and the enthusiasm is a great deal higher!” said Bliss.

This is not a recorded calling system, but the individuals who are making the calls are talking to the recipient in person. If the recipient does not answer, then a pre-recorded message is left on the answering machine.

As of October 16, Darke County volunteers have placed 36,906 calls this year. The biggest single day was 3,100 calls placed on September 29.

Other Darke County elected officials who have helped with the calling are: Darke County Clerk of Courts Cindy Pike, Darke County Auditor Carol Ginn, Darke County Commissioner Diane Delaplane, Darke County Recorder Linda Stachler, and Darke County Prosecuting Attorney Kelly Ormsby.

If you would be interested in helping with the calling effort, please contact Bliss at (937) 423-3345.
