Mercer County Deputy arrested, terminated

Celina, OH – Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced today the termination of Court House Deputy Mark Germann.  Germann has been employed by the Sheriff’s Office since April 18, 1988.  On March 29, 2013 he retired, but wished to remain employed and was allowed to do so.  Deputy Germann started as a new probationary employee on April 1, 2013.

The termination is the result of Deputy Germann’s arrest by the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.  This arrest resulted in an immediate operator’s license suspension as he refused to take the breath test.

“There is no dispute that Germann was driving the car and that he did take a portable breath test at the scene that tested his breath alcohol above the legal limit,” stated Sheriff Grey, “a Deputy Sheriff must be held accountable.  While I appreciate Mark’s service to Mercer County and his service previously as a DARE Officer, I will not condone any Sheriff’s Office employee driving under the influence.”

No other information about the arrest will be released by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office as it is not a Sheriff’s Office case.  Any additional information about the arrest should be directed to the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
