Accident claims
life of Celina woman
On October 12, 2013 at approximately 12:21 p.m. Darke County deputies,
along with Burkettesville Fire, Ansonia Rescue and CareFlight, were
dispatched to SR 705 and Rhynard Fink Rd. in reference to a two vehicle
accident. Once on scene mutual aid was requested from St. Henry
Rescue and Union City, Ohio Rescue.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Buick LaSabre, driven by
Catherine Franke (65) of Celina, was northbound on Rhynard Fink
Rd. Franke had pulled up to the intersection at SR705 and
stopped. Franke then pulled out in to the intersection and was
struck by a 2000 Ford F-150, driven by Arlan Hirschy (61) of Monroe,
IN, which was traveling eastbound on SR 705. Both the Franke and
Hirschy vehicle then went off the northeast corner of the intersection
and came to final rest in a cornfield.
Hirschy, along with his passengers, Helenia Hirschy (59), and three
grandchildren were treated by Ansonia, St. Henry and Union City
Rescue. All five subjects from the Hirschy vehicle were
transported to Coldwater Hospital. Franke was extricated from her
vehicle by Burkettsville Fire and Ansonia Rescue. Franke
succumbed to her injuries from the accident.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's
Office and the Darke County Coroner's Office. This marks Darke County's
fifth fatal of the year.
