Driver killed in Mercer County box truck crash

Celina, OH – Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey states is Office is investigating a fatal traffic crash.   At 4:03 PM todays date, Mercer County Central Dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls in reference to a crash on US Route 33, east of Celina Mendon Road in Center Township. 

A 52 year old male from out of state was operating a 2007 GMC Budget rental box truck west bound on US Route 33.  For an unknown reason the truck traveled off the north side of US Route 33.  The driver overcorrected and brought the truck back onto the roadway, overcorrected again causing the truck to overturn.  The male driver was ejected from the truck and became pinned under it. 

There was also a male juvenile passenger inside the truck who was transported to St. Marys Hospital by Celina Squad with non-life threatening injuries.  The 52 year old male was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Dr. Timothy Heinrichs.
 
The names of the driver and passenger are not being released until next of kin can be properly notified.
 
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Mendon-Union Fire Department, and MCERV.
 
The crash remains under investigation.
