Accident on U.S. 36 sends one to hospital
On April 2, 2014 at 2:14 p.m. Darke County Deputies, along with
Gettysburg Fire and Rescue were dispatched to US36 at Greentree Dr.
reference a two vehicle, semi vs. car, injury accident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Chevy Camaro, driven by
Linda L. Stacey (71) of Ft. Wayne, was eastbound on US36 and was
stopped for a vehicle that was waiting to make a left turn on to
Greentree Dr. A 2005 International semi, driven by Gary G.
Lockhart (49) of Thomasville, NC, was also eastbound on US36 behind
Stacy's vehicle and did not see the stopped traffic. Lockhart
attempted to get stopped, but struck Stacey's vehicle in the rear end,
forcing Stacey's vehicle forward, which in turn caused Stacey's vehicle
to strike a 2009 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Thomas C. Hartzell (54) of
Troy, in the rear end. During the course of the accident a 2009
GMC Acadia, driven by April Shumaker (37) of Greenville, was westbound
on US36 and got hit by debris from Stacey's vehicle as she passed.
Stacey was treated at the scene by Gettysburg Rescue and was
transported to Wayne Hospital. Stacey had a passenger in her
vehicle, Dennis Reiling (68) of Churubusco, IN. Reiling was
checked by Gettysburg Rescue, but refused treatment. Lockhart,
Hartzell and Shumaker all denied any injury at the scene.
Stacey's condition is unknown at this time.
Lockhart was issued a citation for Assured Clear Distance. This
accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's
Office.
