Two Ohio cities among top 100 for young families
Dec 22, 2014

The Midwest has a reputation for good schools and strong communities. That has not gone unnoticed by a new report from Apartment List ranking the top 100 cities for young families.

Two Ohio cities, including one from the Dayton region, made the list.

Apartment List, a San Francisco-based website that lists properties for lease, ranked 500 cities in the U.S. based on four factors important to families:

Safety, based on FBI statistics for the number of violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 residents.

Housing cost, based on the Apartment List and American Community Survey's percentage of the average income required to rent the average two-bedroom apartment.

School quality, based on Department of Education data for high school graduation rates for public school districts in that city.

Child friendlines s, based on the American Community Survey's percentage of children in the city.

As for the Ohio towns, Parma was No. 36 on the list while Kettering was No. 67.

Incidentally, the No. 1 city on the list was Fishers, Ind.
