Miami County employers need to fill 200 jobs

Industry in Miami County is poised to take off, but a lack of skilled laborers is slowing down growth plans.

Employers in the county have openings for more than 200 skilled labor positions, from process improvement engineers and CNC machinists to truck drivers, according to the June Ohio Means Jobs newsletter for Miami County.

Many employers in Piqua are ready to expand their facilities and hire more employees in order to ramp up their production, but are having a hard time finding the labor, said Gary Huff, city manager for Piqua.

We’re going to be doing some external marketing to draw people that are looking for work,” Huff said. “Young professionals, skilled laborers, some college degrees, some management — the issue is finding the employees.”

If the employers can find workers and carry out their expansion plans, it could help the companies reach new markets, could mean a spike in construction projects in the county, and could draw in new residents looking to live near their jobs.
