Accident results in double fatality

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports his Office is investigating a double fatal crash at the intersection of State Route 49 and State Route 29.  Mercer County Central Dispatch received calls at 7:11 PM on Wednesday September 25, 2014 of a crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a vehicle.  

The investigation revealed a 2006 Chevy Impala that was driven by 82 year old Kathleen Hickey from Piqua, Ohio was traveling north bound on State Route 49 and failed to stop for the stop sign at this intersection.  The 2006 Chevy Impala was struck in the intersection by a west bound 2012 Volva tractor and semi-trailer.  The semi-tractor and trailer was operated by 24 year old Brandon L. Dobbs from Muncie, Indiana.  Mr. Dobbs was not injured.
 
Pronounced dead on the scene by Mercer County Coroner Dr. Timothy Heinrichs was Kathleen Hickey, and her husband 86 year old Billy N. Hickey, who was the right front passenger.
 
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Southwest Fire Department, Celina Squad, MCERV, and a Ohio Motor Carrier Inspector.  This marks the third fatal crash in Mercer County in 2014.  The crash remains under investigation.
