Darke County Sheriff’s Office
Fatal accident
in New Madison
New Madison- On August 1, 2015 at 9:54 PM Darke County Deputies along
with New Madison Fire, Hollansburg Fire and Tri-Village Rescue were
dispatched to the 2000 Block of Mills Rd on a one vehicle injury
accident.
Preliminary investigation showed a 2004 Ford truck was west bound on
Mills Rd. The truck went off the right side of the road striking a
utility pole then a fence. The vehicle then overturned coming to rest
on its top. One occupant in the vehicle identified as Samuel J. Barga
(19) of Greenville was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his
injuries at the scene. A second occupant in the vehicle fled the scene
on foot. The Darke County Sheriff’s office K9 was called to the scene
and an intensive search was performed to try and locate the second
occupant but was unsuccessful. The Darke County Sheriff’s Department
accident reconstruction team was also called to the scene.
On August 2, 2015 at 7:18 a.m. Darke County Deputies located the second
occupant, identified as Tyler Holzapfel (22) of Greenville.
Holzapfel was arrested on an outstanding warrant unrelated to this
investigation.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s
Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office. The case will be
referred to the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office reference charges upon
the completion of the investigation. Anyone having information in
