Fatal accident on U.S. Route 127
First fatality of 2015 on Darke County roads

On Tuesday January 13, 2015 at approximately 10:21 AM, Darke County Deputies, North Star Fire, Ansonia Rescue, Darke County Coroner's Office, Darke County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team, and Ohio State Highway Patrol Commercial Motor Carrier Inspector responded to the 14,300 block of US RT 127 on a report of a fatal head-on crash involving a semi and motor vehicle.
 
Preliminary investigation revealed a Silver 2004 Pontiac Vibe driven by Kimberly Sue Acuff, 47, of Knoxville, TN was traveling northbound on US RT 127 and traveled left of center colliding head-on into a southbound Tan 2000 Frieghtliner semi truck and trailer, driven by Daniel L. Clark, 56, of West Chicago, IL.  Kimberly Acuff was pronounced deceased at the scene and had to be mechanically extricated from her vehicle and the driver of the semi was uninjured.
 
US RT 127 was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours while crews investigated the scene.
 
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office and the Darke County Coroner's Office. This is Darke County's first fatal crash of 2015.
