On May 6, 2015 at approximately 2:59 PM Darke County Deputies, along with Gettysburg Fire and Rescue, Bradford Fire and Rescue, Greenville Rescue, and Careflight were dispatched to the 8100 block of US Route 36, near Gettysburg, in reference to a three vehicle, serious injury crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Chevy SUV, driven by Teresa Ann Johnson, 70, of Greenville, was eastbound on US 36, slowing to turn left into a driveway.  Johnson's vehicle was struck from behind by a 2014 Volvo semi tractor trailer, driven by Aurthur D. Elliott, 61, of Springfield, Ohio, which was also eastbound on US Route 36.  Ms. Johnson's SUV was forced across the centerline by the impact and struck a westbound 2001 Mitsubishi cargo truck, driven by Robert L. Himes Jr., 51, of Union City, Indiana.  Ms. Johnson's SUV overturned and came to rest in the middle of the roadway.

Ms. Johnson and her passenger, Jody L. Stewart, 53, of Bay City, Michigan had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means and were transported to Miami Valley Hospital via Careflight with undisclosed injuries.  At press release time, Ms. Johnson is listed in serious condition while Ms. Stewart is listed in fair condition.

Mr. Himes and Mr. Elliott, who were the lone occupants of their vehicles, were treated and released at the scene with no injuries.  The Ohio State Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement Officer responded to the scene for a vehicle inspection.

The Darke County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and US Route 36 was shut down to traffic for nearly three hours.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office
