Fatal Accident
on Bears Mill Road
On October 3, 2015 at approximately 4:13 P.M., Darke County Deputies,
Darke County Coroner’s Office, Arcanum Police Department, Arcanum Fire,
Arcanum Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue, Greenville Township Rescue,
Tri-Village Rescue, Union Township Rescue and Spirit Medical Transport
were dispatched to the 4000 block of Arcanum Bears Mill Rd. in
reference to a two vehicle injury accident with
entrapment.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1996 Buick Park Avenue driven by a
female was traveling north on Arcanum Bears Mill Road. The second
vehicle was a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling south on Arcanum Bears
Mill Road, driven by a male with one female and three male passengers.
The Buick was left of the center line traveling into the path of the
Chevrolet. The Buick struck the Chevrolet head on. Five persons
were injured and were transported to Miami Valley Hospital and Wayne
Health Care Center for treatment. The driver of the Buick was
identified as Darlene J. Cook (76) of Pitsburg, Ohio. Ms. Cook
succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Condition of the injured unknown at this time.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's
