Ohio Senator Bill Beagle
Ohio's Unemployment at Lowest Rate Since 2001

COLUMBUS – State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) praised the August employment report released Friday by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, which shows the state's continued upward growth in job creation.

In August, Ohio gained 16,500 new private sector jobs and unemployment dropped to 4.7 percent, below the national average of 5.1 percent. The state's rate of unemployment is at a 14-year low.

"Currently, there are over 16,000 full-time jobs open in the region on OhioMeansJobs.com, over half of which are middle and upper middle income positions," said Beagle. "It is clear that improving Ohio’s business climate and reducing unemployment are a result of the job-friendly policies that the Ohio General Assembly has put in place."

The largest job growth occurred in the construction (+2,700); professional business and services (+5,700); trade transport and utilities (+5,300); and leisure and hospitality (+2,900) industries.

More information and the full unemployment report published by the Department of Jobs and Family Services are available online at jfs.ohio.gov/RELEASES/unemp/201509.
