“Mine is for a green earth,” said one student. “Mine is for treating other people nice,” said another. Greenville middle school students show visitor Bob Robinson the tiles their and other classes have been working on. They are glazed tiles of different designs, each expressing in artform their thoughts for the new school.

Grace Barhorst writes “I wish that everyone could have a friend. I show friendship in my image because branches growing together is like friends holding hands, which represents friendship,” she added.

“My students from both semesters have been working on a clay tile project illustrating their hopes and dreams for our new school,” said GCSD Art Teacher, Julie Brewer. The tiles have been installed by her fifth and sixth grade students into the courtyard on the Middle School side of the building.

The tiles were inspired by the famous clay mosaics of Henri Matisse and local Cincinnati artist, Sarah Horn. Students discussed the importance of the new school building and wishes they might have for it to be a great place for a long time to come.
