GHS sophomore earns a first in individual cheer category

GREENVILLE – “Do I get teased? Sure. Doesn’t bother me… it’s like anything else that is unusual, or that you don’t see every day.” Cameron Clark grinned. He was ready for his solo performance in the Great Darke County Cheer Competition, High School Individual.

His was the only performance in the category, earning him a First Place.

“My sister Krisey, got me into it,” he said. “Am I good? Yeah!!” he said emphatically. “I think I am.” Cameron grinned, then noted he thought his performance might have a few surprises for the judges… at least he hoped so.

This was his second year in cheer competition.

“Is competition cheer a sport? I would say yes,” the GHS sophomore noted, adding that he hoped to cheer in college. “You have to put a lot into it, with the tumbling and jumps. It’s something different, knowing you have three minutes to show everything you know… how hard you worked.”

Clark said he had put in a lot of hours over the summer with the exception of about two weeks after spraining his ankle. In order to be ready, he said he pushed himself pretty hard after that.

Cameron said he wasn’t the only male participating in this year’s cheer competition. His younger brother, Connor, was on the Greenville Youth Team.
