Edison State Community College
Edison State Board of Trustees Recognizes Governor DeWine

The Edison State Community College Board of Trustees recently passed a resolution of appreciation to recognize Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for his leadership and support to Edison State throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

From the onset of our nation’s healthcare challenge, Edison State has excelled and led through example via communication and protocol as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. With Governor DeWine’s edicts, Edison State’s focus has been to create an environment where both students and employees felt safe while continuing in their respective roles.

With this, the Board of Trustees of Edison State Community College adopts this formal Resolution to officially acknowledge the positive impact of actions taken by Governor Mike DeWine and his staff to inform and guide our operational responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

These actions include:

Immediate establishment of direct lines of communication from higher education presidents with the Governor and his staff.

Timely guidance for and strong coordination of higher education adjustments providing prevention and safety for our students, employees and community partners

Extreme care and consideration for the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on higher education funding, expenses and revenues.

Continued emphasis from Lt. Governor Jon A. Husted on the role of community colleges in workforce partnerships as key to the state’s recovery.

Creation of an Ohio COVID-19 resource hub featuring higher education best practices, clear guidelines, and templates for communication.

Support for the Chancellor, Randy Gardner, of the Ohio Department of Education’s role as an advocate and communication pipeline throughout the pandemic.

The resolution goes on to state, “These actions and many others serve to establish a culture of trust and transparency between higher education and state leadership. This culture is a critical component in not only adjusting to the health crisis, but to allow institutions, such as Edison State to be successful and continue to serve greater numbers of students.

Therefore, the Board of Trustees of Edison State Community College offers its deep appreciation to Governor Mike DeWine and his staff. We are confident that the great State of Ohio, the Ohio system of Higher Education and Edison State, in particular, will find ourselves in a positive position at the finale of this crisis, due in large part to the personal effort and sacrifices of our Governor.”
