New Funding to Support Students in Need at Edison State

The Edison Foundation has joined together with Edison State Community College to provide funding for student emergency needs. After a yearlong study, The Edison Foundation Board of Directors approved the Student Emergency Assistance Fund formation in June 2020, along with budgeting $5,000 for FY21 as startup funding. The newly formed fund is a critical lifeline of support that provides immediate aid to students threatened due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Student Emergency Assistance Fund is available to students currently enrolled at Edison State who have emergency needs beyond academics. Needs, which if left unaddressed, would significantly compromise their ability to finish the semester. A student may request expenses totaling up to but not exceeding $500 to be covered once per academic year for the following eligible costs: childcare, food/meals, gas, housing/rent, medical/dental expenses, personal automobile expenses, public transportation expenses, or utilities.

“Many of our students are juggling multiple responsibilities and are just one financial emergency away from having to make the difficult decision to leave school.  If we can help cover the cost of that emergency, that student can stay in school and continue working toward creating a better life for themselves and their family,” said Jessica Chambers, Dean of Student Affairs at Edison State.

Students may determine if they qualify for funding from the Student Emergency Assistance Fund by visiting www.edisonohio.edu/sea and completing the form. For more information, email Dr. Jessica Chambers, Dean of Student Affairs, at jchambers@edisonohio.edu.

Support of this fund is even more critical now as COVID-19 continues to impact the lives of students. As families continue to endure record hardship and financial loss, students are at an even greater risk. By giving to the Student Emergency Assistance Fund, you’ll help ensure that Edison State students can pursue their educational goals and realize their dreams even in these uncertain times.

If you would like to support the Student Emergency Assistance Fund to help keep students on track for the future, consider donating through The Edison Foundation at www.edisonohio.edu/Foundation via PayPal, check, or credit card. Please make payments to The Edison Foundation and designate the Student Emergency Assistance Fund.
