A. Irene Light

Mrs. A. Irene Light, age 89, of Granger, Indiana, and formerly of Darke County, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 3:40 PM at her residence.  She was born on September 25, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Roy L. & Ruth (Byers) Landis.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Light) Rader of Granger, Indiana; son and daughter in law, Ronnie & Janet (Ashton) Light of New Bern, North Carolina; grandchildren, David Rader, Kimberly (Rader) Perry, Melissa Rader, Brooke Rader, and John Rush Light; great grandchildren, Zephir, Colton, and Eva Marie Perry; Brother, LeRoy Landis of Greenville, Ohio; sister, Charlotte (Landis) Gessler and husband Glenn of Statesville, North Carolina; sister in law, Jane Landis of Greenville; nieces and nephews, John (April) Landis, Phillip (Mary) Landis, Julie Gessler, Walter (Heather) Gessler, Linda (James) Matte, Patty (Jerry) Latham, Jim (Sharon) Deeter and Janice (Howard) Hershberger; great and great great nieces and nephews, Kelly, Lukes, Brandon, Tia, Luke, Josie, Laura Mae, Michael, Michelle, Christopher, Jane, Gretchen, and Curtis; cousins, Nova (Reck) Stickley and Louise (Reck) & Herb Sease; and her wonderful “Greenville Adopted” son and daughter Bruce and Linda Stoltz. 

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Rush Light, whom she married on December 10, 1941 by Rev. Frank Thomas; son, Robert “Bob” Light; brothers and sister in law, Clyde & Carol Landis and Wayne Landis.

Irene worked as a Secretary for the Greenville City Schools in the Superintendent’s Office.  She was a member of the Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend, Indiana and the Greenville Secretary Association.  She loved gardening, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and was a sports enthusiast.  Irene is remembered by her family and friends as one of the sweetest, kindest, most loving souls, and was admired for her cheerful upbeat attitudes in spite of many painful and heart breaking episodes that she experienced throughout her lifetime. 

There will be a service held on Friday, October, 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Don Bachman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, Ohio.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Close family and friends are welcome at St. John Lutheran Church for fellowship immediately following the services.
