Eddie “Gene” Murphy

Eddie “Gene” Murphy age 74, of Greenville, Ohio went to be with the Lord at 8:50 P.M. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at his residence. Gene was born February 2, 1939 in Elroy, Ohio to the late James Harry & Mary Elsie (Cline) Murphy.

Gene is survived by his wife, Wilma Faye (Moore) Murphy whom he married December 14, 1963; sons & daughters-in-law, Mark & Melinda (Jean) Murphy of New Paris, Ohio, Todd & Beth (Middleton) Murphy of Union City, Ohio and Chris & Angela (Molitor) Murphy of Fayetteville, Ohio; grandchildren, Alexander, Madelynn, Olivia, Clayton, Wesley, Samantha, Cecilia, Christopher, Anne Marie and Christina Murphy; brothers & sisters-in-law, Gary & Sarah (Hardwick) Murphy of Union City, Ohio and Don & Benita (Warwick) Murphy of Decatur, Indiana; sister & brother-in-law, Kathleen (Murphy) & Dan Tipple of Springfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Anita Murphy of Traverse City, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene is also preceded in death by a brother, James Galen Murphy.

Gene was a farmer. He enjoyed his grandchildren, sporting events and 4-H livestock shows. Gene’s number 1 pride was having the best garden. In 2002, Gene was named Best Darke County Gardener.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Bob Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Teegarden Cemetery Ansonia, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Hospice.
