John E. Nickol

John E. Nickol, age 81, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:50 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.  He was born on July 30, 1933 in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Edwin H. & Mary A. (Printz) Nickol.

He is survived by his wife Ramona June (Lanich) Nickol of Versailles, Ohio whom he married on June 15, 1953; daughters, Penny (Doug) Zirkle of St. Paris, Ohio, and Johna (Chuck) Hemmelgarn of North Star, Ohio; sons, Kelly Nickol of Versailles and Larry (Rocky) Nickol of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Ashley (Gina) Zirkle, Lee (Denise) Hemmelgarn, Lindsay (Michael) Costlow, Jay (Kendra) Hemmelgarn and Beau (Gina) Hemmelgarn; great grandchildren, Teagan, Anna, Mason, Julia, Naomi, Desmond, Ian and Alex; brothers & sisters in law, Fred (Iris) Nickol of Versailles, Ramon (Rosie) Nickol of Versailles, Van (Marie) Nickol of Tucson, Arizona, and Peggy Nickol of Tucson, Arizona; sisters and brother in law, Miriam (Ed) Paulus of Norman, Oklahoma, and Myrna Gigandet of Versailles; sister in law, Hazel Nickol of Versailles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Wendy Kay Nickol; brothers, Edwin and Neil Nickol; infant sister, Margie Nickol; brothers in law, Delaine Gehle and Norman Gigandet.

John was a member of the United States Army.  John was a Memorial Craftsman and a member of the Eagles in Versailles, Versailles United Methodist Church, Vets Club, Amateur Trap Shooting Association and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.  He was the president of the Greenlawn Cemetery Board for 40 years and loved to hunt and fish.

There will be a service held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio, with Pastor Chuck MacKeen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio.  Family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service. 

It is the wishes of the family that the memorial contributions are given to the Darke County Humane Society or the Versailles Emergency Medical Services.
