Barbara Elaine Martin

Barbara Elaine Martin, Greenville, died peacefully at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center on February 27, 2014. Born in 1934 in Seattle, Washington, to Glenn Jewett and Geraldine Corbin Jewett.

Survived by her children, Valerie (Steve) Bevelhymer, Melanie (Ken) Jones and Glenn (Michelle) Martin; her grandchildren, Jason Martin, Gregory Martin and Will Martin; brother Glenn “Tony” (Louise) Jewett, half-sisters, Leslie Douglas and Dani Cataline; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Martin, who brought her to the family farm near Greenville in 1954; Melanie’s children, Nicholas and Nathaniel; and half-brother Jeff Jewett.

Barbara was an accomplished artist who received numerous awards for her artwork and has pieces in collections throughout the country. She ran an art consulting business for many years before turning to the practice of politics. Barbara served on the Board of Elections and as Chair of the Darke County Republican Party.  She was a mentor to aspiring politicians and an advisor to many successful campaigns.  Her intrepid spirit and love of discovery led to other favorite activities, including international travel, genealogy and journalism. Barbara's philosophy to the end was "lucky me; experiencing this piece of the action...being alive during this time in the life of the universe.”

The family will receive friends at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home (1499 North Broadway, Greenville, Ohio 45331) on Saturday, March 8th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Private interment at Greenville Union Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to State of the Heart Hospice (1350 N.
