Joanne Marcia Lear

Joanne Marcia Lear, age 78 of Greenville, Ohio passed away Saturday October 11, 2014 in the emergency room of Wayne Healthcare Center Greenville, Ohio.  Joanne was born April 24, 1936 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Bernard and Ruby (Ashman) Swank. 

Joanne was a 1954 graduate of Greenville High School where she was a varsity cheerleader and then attended Miami University where she studied business and education.

She met her husband Raymond Lear at Miami University and they became a “Miami Merger” and were married October 26, 1957.

Joanne and Raymond settled in Greenville in 1960 where Joanne gave birth to two sons Randy and Rob in April of 1960 and March of 1963 respectively.
Her two boys were her passion and together with Ray they raised them to graduate as “Fighting Green Waves”.  During those years Joanne was instrumental in supporting school spirit and extracurricular activities with great vigor.

In addition to raising a family and supporting Raymond’s career, she worked as a substitute teacher and as an employment counselor for the Council on Rural Services.  She was also a big supporter of D.E.C.A. for a number of years and was very active in tennis, golf and exercising.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Beverly and a brother Steve.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 57 years Raymond H. Lear of Greenville.  Also son Randy and wife Patty of Medina, Ohio and their children Samuel, Grace and Tommy; son Robert and wife Wendy of Jupiter, Florida and their 3 daughters Taylor, Brittany and Morgan; sisters Norma (Jack) Unland of Greenville, Cheryl (Ned) Denlinger of Englewood, Ohio, and Linda Deeter of Greenville, sister In law Dorothy Greenawald of Charlotte, NC., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Joanne’s Life Service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday October 15, 2014 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home 1499 N. Broadway Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until time of the services in the funeral home.
