Verla I. Baker

Verla I. Baker, 98, of Greenville and formerly of Ansonia, passed away early Monday morning, January 5, 2015 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
 
She was born August 28, 1916, in Ansonia, daughter of the late Waldo and Bertha Irene (Thomas) Winterrowd. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Baker on Sept. 29, 1983; a son, James A. Baker on August 6, 1989; a brother, Romaine Winterrowd; and a great grandson, Terry Baker, Jr.
 
A Homemaker, Verla was a member of the Ansonia Christian Church, the Eastern Star, and a lifetime member of the Ansonia American Legion Auxiliary.
 
She is survived by her children, Judi (Marvin) Peters of Ansonia and Tony (Linda) Baker of Greenville; grandchildren, Terry Baker, Jeff Peters, Shannon Hall, Emily Smith, Brian Baker, Kurt Baker, and Toni Johnson; and several great grandchildren
 
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 9 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Randy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia.
 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 11:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m.  The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Ansonia Christian Church or the American Heart Association.
