Wayne D. Coblentz

Wayne D. Coblentz, age 91 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:30 P.M. Saturday January 3, 2015 in the emergency room of Wayne Healthcare Center in Greenville.

He was born April 1, 1923 in Union City, Ohio.   Wayne was a well-known business man in the Greenville area since 1946.  Wayne retired from his State Farm Insurance Agency in August 2001.  He was a graduate of the Gettysburg High School in 1941.  Served in the Air force during WW II from January 1943 through June 1946.  He was awarded the Purple Heart, after being wounded at Leyte Island during the invasion of the Philippine Islands in October 1944.  Wayne was an avid golfer, life member of the Greenville Bowling Association, and the last living charter member of the Darke County Horseshoe Club.  Wayne was a very successful fastpitch softball pitcher in the late 1940’s and 1950’s in Ohio and Indiana.  He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.  He also was active in and supportive of many local programs including Youth for Christ, Campus Crusade, Senior Moments, Masonic lodge, Hospice and helped with the return of Southern Gospel Music concerts to Darke County.  Wayne enjoyed music, and for several years he used his God given talent to play the piano, and several string instruments, with local Country Western bands.  He was a 70 year member of the Oakland Church of the Brethren, and the last few years, he has been a member of the Greenville Missionary Church. 

Wayne left no doubt that the primary joy of his life was his wife Virginia (Hartman), and their family.  She preceded him in death May 9th 1992.  Also preceding him in death was his parents, Nathan K. and Sylvia (Cain) Coblentz, one sister May (Coblentz) Rhoades; five brothers Lonnie, Raymond, Robert, Floyd and Glen.
 
Wayne is survived by his children Charles (Donna) Coblentz of West Virginia, Patricia (Paul) Nelson of West Alexandria, Oh., Wayne Allen (Karen) Coblentz of South Charleston, Oh., Deborah (Robert) Kuhnle of Greenville, Oh., Sheri (Joe) Birt of Columbus, Ind., Kristi (Curtis) Falldorf of West Alexandria, Oh. and Rebecca (Joel) Hootman of Arcanum, Oh.  Grandchildren Donica (David) Rogers, Kevin (Kristy) Coblentz, Michele (Chris) Petsko, Lori (Stephen) Barnes, Elizabeth (Jeff) Crumbaker, Lizabeth (David) Waugh, Zac (Jamie) Coblentz, Sara (Scott) Johnson, Katie (Brett) Hill, Rachel (Matthew) Harmon, Nathan (Molly) Birt, Katherine Birt, Adam, David and Jenna Falldorf, Josiah, Isaiah and Jesse Hootman.  Great grandchildren Olivia, Maggie and Jessica Canoy, Tyler, Kylie and Bryson Coblentz, Megan, Emily and Alex Petsko, Logan and Lorin Barnes, Gracie Crumbaker, Nathan Lily, Ethan and Tyler Waugh, Walker Hill, Addison, Michael and Matthew Johnson and Marcus Harmon.  Sister Marceille Hyland, sister in law Barbara (Schafer) Coblentz, Brother in law and Sister in law Charles and Doris Hartman and Nephew Michael Hartman.  Wayne was also known as “Uncle Wayne” to many Nieces and Nephews who he loved dearly.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday January 8, 2015 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Gary Oser officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. 

The Greenville Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial; Service at 7:45 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home and the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will present Full Military Honors Thursday.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to the State of the Heart Hospice of Darke County or the Greenville Missionary Church.
