Lawrence A. Simons

Lawrence A. Simons, age 83, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 6:23 A.M. on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at his residence. Lawrence was born January 24, 1931 in Frenchtown, Ohio to the late Lawrence E. & Estella (Baltes) Simons.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Shirley (Monnin) Simons whom he married August 20, 1960; children, Lisa Heaton & Bob Smith of Minster, Lynn & Gerry Drees of Russia and Daniel L. & Beth Simons of Versailles; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Dues of Versailles, Genevieve Tobe of Dayton, Lu Dues of Dayton, Ruth Aselage of Ft. Loramie, Alma (John) Pequignot of Greenville, Verdice Brandts of Celina and Phyllis Imwalle of Dayton; sisters-in-law, Catherine Simons of Versailles and Evelyn Simons of Versailles; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Audrey Monnin of Russia, Marion Grillot of Russia, June Young of Sidney, Richard Monnin of Russia, Jeanette Monnin of Russia, Carol Dunkel of Russia, Leona Monnin of Versailles and Lindy & Betty Monnin of Russia; and numerous nieces and nephews.   

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Heaton; brothers, Noah J. Simons and John F. Simons; brothers-in-law, William Dues, Alfred Tobe, Joseph J. Dues, Louis Aselage, Jerry Brandts, Frederick “Barney” Imwalle, John L. Monnin, Kermit Monnin, Denis M. Monnin, Donald N. Monnin, Edward Sherman and Richard J. Young; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Monnin, Emily Grillot and Patricia Monnin.

Lawrence served in the U.S. Army from November 1953 to November 1955. He was a proud member of the Hell on Wheels 2nd Armored Division. Lawrence was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus St. Denis Council.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Ron Haft celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to donor’s choice.
