Shirley Ann Yohey

Shirley Ann Yohey, 84, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born on August 20, 1935, in Maimi County, Ohio to the late Morris and Mary (Karns) Blackburn.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Gene” Yohey, whom she married on July 4, 1953; her granddaughters, Holli Anderson and Tracy Bailey; and her brothers, Benny and Kenny Blackburn.

Shirley was a strong family-oriented person, who put her family before herself. She was proud of her children and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent many years working for Murphy Mart and then Ames until she retired in the early 1990s. Later in life, Shirley’s love for children inspired her to begin babysitting for many years.

In her free time, Shirley loved to play euchre and “cards for money”, as she would say. She was known as a fantastic cook and baker. Her pies, homemade Mac n’ Cheese, and Pot Pie was the talk of the family. She loved to watch sports, especially football and college basketball. Her all-time favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Shirley loved to joke around and have a good time. Her sense of humor will be missed by many.

Shirley is survived by her children, Connie Shiverdecker of Greenville, Sharon and Brent Siders of Greenville, and Larry and Connie Yohey of Ansonia, Ohio; her grandchildren, Travis Yohey, Jason Yohey, Shelly Martin, Scott Siders, and Nick Anderson; her 15 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Carol Close of Ansonia, Connie Harling of Celina, Ohio, Becky Klipstine of Ansonia, and Steve and Carrie Blackburn of Troy, Ohio.
