Paul L. Shimp
Paul L. Shimp age 85, of Versailles passed away at 7:36 AM on Sunday,
January 19, 2020, at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.
Paul was born June 16, 1934, in Webster to the late Roy F. & Mollie
M. (Coons) Shimp. In addition to his parents, Paul was also preceded in
death by his brothers, Clarence Shimp, Roger Shimp and Walter Shimp in
infancy; and sisters, Helen Witt and Ruth Frantz.
Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean (Shade) Shimp whom he
married May 11, 1956; children, Michael & Kathy Shimp of
Versailles, Paula (Shimp) & Patrick Bergman of Russia, Timothy
& Denise Shimp of Versailles and Mark & Jodi Shimp of
Versailles; grandchildren, Joshua & Dawn Shimp, Molly Bergman,
Matthew & Kaylyn Shimp, Kimberly & Jonathan Peltier, Jared
& Jessie Shimp, Bryant Bergman, Jessica & Mitchell
Pitsenbarger, Alexandria & Zach Kiehl, Kristin Shimp, Sheyenne
Shimp, Logan Shimp, Franklin Shimp and Chad Shimp; 14
great-grandchildren; sister & brother-in-law, Barbara & John
Berger of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul served in the U.S. Army. Paul worked at NCR in Dayton then later
retired from Versailles Schools where he was a custodian. Paul was a
lifelong member of the Webster United Methodist Church. Paul loved
spending time with his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling,
woodworking and dogs.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 27, 2020,
at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor David Wilson
officiating. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery with full military
honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family
will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and Monday morning
from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
