George Sullivan Luce

George Sullivan Luce, 80, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Brethren Retirement Community.

He was born on July 28, 1939, in Bellevue, Ohio, to the late F. A. “Bud” and Mary K. (Sullivan) Luce.

George was a 1957 graduate Greenville High School. After high school, George attended the University of Dayton and then graduated from the New Hampshire Technical Institute. After graduation, George returned home to his family’s business, the “Hamburger Shop”, which they started in 1939. George worked with his parents until they retired, and then he began to work for the Darke County Highway Department, until his retirement in 1999.

He enjoyed bowling, playing golf at White Springs, and playing cards. He also enjoyed socializing with his friends around town. George was a past Exalted Ruler and trustee for the Greenville Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Greenville Moose Lodge and the American Legion. George was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville and was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

George is survived by his children, George Luce, Jr. and his wife, Becky, of Greenville, Allen Luce and his wife, Tracey, of Greenville, and Teresa Hunt and her husband, Brian, of Greenville; his grandchildren, Tyler Luce and his wife, Katie, of Clayton, Ohio, Graham Luce of Fairborn, Ohio, Hannah Hunt of Greenville, Haleigh Luce of Greenville, and Molly Hunt of Columbus, Ohio; his great grandchildren, Isaiah, Mackenzie, and Addison Luce; and the mother of his children, Dixie Luce of Greenville.

A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery near Greenville.

The family has entrusted Tribute Funeral Homes with the arrangements.

The family request that memorial contributions be given to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 238 W. 3rd Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331.
