Richard “Bud” R. Bonfiglio

Richard “Bud” R. Bonfiglio, 88,of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020, at his home.

He was born on July 1, 1932, in Defiance, Ohio, to the late Paul and Erma (Caterina) Bonfiglio.

In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” McCartney; his infant siblings, Ralph and Carmen Bonfiglio; his sister-in-law, Audrey Bonfiglio; his sister, Kate Romaker and husband Rich; his brother, Frank Bonfiglio and wife, Alice; and his brother-in-law, Keith Adams.

Bud was a graduate of Lima Central High School. He spent his high school career running track and playing football. Bud and his brother Ron were the first set of brothers to play in the High School All American Football game. After high school, he attended Ohio Northern University School of Pharmacy. As a pharmacist, he and his brother, Ron, founded Bonfiglio Pharmacy in downtown Greenville, Ohio. Bud retired from a pharmacy career after 50 years.

Bud loved his community. He was known to push others to become healthier and enjoyed counseling them on good healthy habits. He set a good example of fitness by walking 5 miles a day to and from work no matter how inclement the weather. He was instrumental in running a successful fundraising drive for the first all-weather track at Greenville High School. He was active in the Kiwanis’ and served on the St. Mary’s Catholic School board for many years while in Greenville. Bud was a devout Catholic and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, St. Charles Catholic Church in Lima, and Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Murrysville over the years.

Bud loved his family and was very proud of them. He enjoyed being a part of their lives and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He loved watching college basketball and football, especially the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In recent years, Bud liked to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bud is survived by his wife, Jeannine (Ulrick) Bonfiglio, whom he married on October 17, 1953; his children, Dr. Richard “Rick” Bonfiglio and wife, Karen, of Murrysville, Dr. Randall Bonfiglio and wife, Melanie, of Murrysville, and Dr. Ron Bonfiglio and wife, Patty, of Lima, Ohio; his son-in-law, Jim McCartney of Fort Myers, Florida; his 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, his siblings, Ronald Bonfiglio and wife, Mary, of Greenville, and Rosie Adams of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 233 W. 3rd Street, Greenville, Ohio, with Father Hank Albeitz and Deacon Thomas Graber officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery.

Per the family’s request, masks will be required, and social distancing will be expected of those who are attending Bud’s services.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public visitation.

The family has entrusted Tribute Funeral Homes with the final arrangements.
