George W. “Junior” Neff

George W. “Junior” Neff, 84, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

Junior was born on February 28, 1936, in West Manchester, Ohio, to the late William and Dora (Deaton) Neff.

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold (Marie) Neff, Carl (Normalee) Neff, and Donald Neff.

Junior owned and operated Neff Brothers Construction for near 35 years, where he built and remodeled several homes and buildings. Junior owned a 172 Cessna airplane and he loved to take his family and friends around on trips and especially to places to eat, known as “Restaurant Airports”. Junior liked to go fishing and would often take fishing trips to Canada and Florida with his buddies.

He was an avid horseshoe pitcher in the Darke County Horseshoe Club and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. He competed in many tournaments around the country. Junior was one of the four members that founded and created the Greenville Area Dog Club. He was also a member of the Greenville Gold Wing Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. After retirement, Junior was an avid mower. He loved to keep his lawn clean and things neat. He also enjoyed square dancing with the Swinging 8’s in Ansonia, Ohio. Junior was a big collector of dice.

Junior is survived by his wife 61 years, Thelma (Fisher) Neff; whom he married on September 27, 1959; his son, Brian (Patty) Neff of Celina, Ohio; his granddaughters, Mandy (Matt) Rismiller and Megan (Kyle) Shuff, all of Greenville; his great grandchildren, Mason and Maven Rismiller, and Lillian and Henry Shuff; his sister-in-law, Gladys Neff of Greenville; his nieces and nephews, Connie Clark, Steve (Ruth Ann) Neff, Carla (Gary) Hummel, Paul (Vickie) Neff, Sarah (Perry) Graves, Dean (Jody) Neff, Dian (Eric) Bulcher, Beth (Dennis) Wells, and Kelly (Janel) Byrum; and numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Junior’s life will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in. Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Guests may visit with Junior’s family on Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to State of the Heart Care, 1350 N. Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio, or the donor’s choice.
