So Who Is He?
text

By Bob Robinson

If you are a farmer, or interested in local agricultural information, or spent much time in 4H, FHA or other ag events at the fair, you probably already know. His name anyway.

His name is Justin Petrosino and he is the AgNR Extension Educator for
OSU Extension in Darke County. He’s been in Darke County a little over a year and regularly provides agricultural updates for County News Online.

Not too long ago I made the unusual request that he send some background information to me to share with our readers… bio, resume, whatever…

He responded that he didn’t know if there was a good bio on him and his “real” facebook page is “locked down tighter than Fort Knox.”

He noted the following as pertinent information: He was born and raised in Milan, Ohio, graduated from Edison High School in 2003. He received a BS in Biology with an Environmental Sciences minor from Baldwin-Wallace College in 2007.

After that he headed west, working on his Masters as a Graduate Research Assistant at Kansas State University. His research was on characterizing the response of weeds to herbicides and cover crops, an issue he has made reference to in his ag updates. He graduated in 2010 with an MS in Agronomy.

Not surprisingly, he combines ag interests with outdoor recreation such as fishing and shooting.

I indicated that this was an “unusual” request for background information. If you know me, or know my writing, you might be wondering why?

At a recent agricultural meeting (7:30 a.m., first Thursday every month, BRC Employee Cafeteria) he made a comment that I thought was interesting. I asked for the photo he mentioned and said I’d like to share it with our readers, many of whom look to him for advice and guidance in their agricultural endeavors.

He sent it and cautioned that I ONLY have permission for one-time publication, “so use it wisely.”

I did a lot of thinking during the Great Darke County Fair… and this was the best approach I could think of. I believe I have used it “wisely.”

He went to KSU. I was raised (mostly) in Nebraska and went to Texas A&M.

So… who IS Justin Petrosino? A man after my own heart. See photo below.
