Patriot Voices
More Regulation Equals More Lost Jobs for Hardworking Families
By Rick Santorum

VERONA, PA - Former presidential candidate, former U.S. Senator, Chairman of Patriot Voices and author of Blue Collar Conservatives Rick Santorum condemned the regulations from President Obama placing historic and job-killing carbon pollution limits on existing power plants.

Senator Santorum said, "Hardworking families across this country continue to face an uphill climb as long as President Obama is in the White House. With today's announcement that he has put into place job-killing regulations on coal-fired plants, hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose their jobs and millions will face higher energy costs."

"Again bypassing Congress because he knows these dramatic, harmful regulations would never pass, the President has chosen to enhance his own political legacy over our country's ability to create jobs for those who need them most. States across the Midwest like Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia and even my home state of Pennsylvania with huge deposits of coal and natural gas are already hurting because of President Obama's misguided priorities. Today's regulations are another slap in the face to our economic prosperity and to the livelihood of millions of hardworking families," Santorum continued.

"President Obama is single-handedly destroying the coal industry - the industry that provided my immigrant grandfather with good-paying, meaningful work generations ago and the industry that has the ability to take us into the next century with the right technology. Yet, our president believes that he should cater to radical environmentalists over the American worker," Santorum concluded.

As a United States Senator, Rick Santorum helped to authorize the nation's first coal-to-liquid fuel plant in Pennsylvania, which will turn waste coal into zero-sulfur diesel fuel. He also was a leader in the area of Abandoned Mine Lands (AMLs) to ensure that Pennsylvania's natural resources were clean in the wake of mining. Santorum's book Blue Collar Conservatives highlights the positive impact the coal and natural gas industries can have on this country when they have the right tools to grow.
