From the Other Side of the Edge…..
“And the Oscar goes to…..”
By Joe Facinoli

When will this President actually begin to “be” a President, …and stop “acting” like he thinks one should ??

He’s got the job, ….and we (some of us) even gave him an affirmation of that, a short year and a half ago.

When does the “method acting”, from immersing himself into his actual, real life, on the job training, start to kick in, …huh??

Hasn’t he ever seen any Brando, or DeNiro, or Pacino movies???

Come to think of it, maybe he has, especially some of their later ones.    All of these “Method” actors, sadly devolved into serious (and ineffective) over-acting Masters, as their careers got closer to the end.

When is Barack Obama going to stop fumbling around, and stumbling through the simplest of scenes, and bumping into all the furniture everywhere, …like the inexperienced dinner theater player, which he seemed to be when he started this gig?

But he does have “indignation” down pat, and seriously feigned “anger”, …as well.

He needs no direction, for these emotions.    Some actors are born with certain skills, …which other mere mortals can only hope to learn.

The nonsensical handling of the Veteran’s Administration debacle last week (with BHO riding in on his big white horse to save the day), is only the latest in a long line of examples of this, from which we can choose.

Totally indignant, …totally pissed off, …while appearing totally (and casually) removed from any of it.

But to be fair, his need to “act” like a President, or pretend to be one, comes from one of two sources/reasons:    1) his complete and utter inexperience at being a leader, of any kind;   and, 2) his grand plan to “fundamentally change” this country.

For both of these, he has to work very hard at convincing the general public that he knows what he’s doing up there, and that he’s got everything under control.

And, that he holds everyone’s best interests very near to his large and loving heart, and that we should all just trust him, always, in this.    (Great acting there, getting folks to ignore his true, cold and callous nature.)

He brought absolutely no experience with him, of any kind (not just in leadership, but from anything, or anywhere), when he arrived at the White House in 2009.

But he’s been cruising through that nifty little internship he won, for our highest office, for five years now (on our time, …and dime), so he’s gettin’ pretty good at fakin’ it, and making those low information folks (the ones who vote) think he’s right on top of things.

However, he has a lot to overcome, …poor guy.

No negotiating skills, and a total lack of understanding as to what that might entail;   no ability to compromise (nor any basic knowledge of how to get any) for best, or any effect;   and no appreciable “people skills” to speak of (other than that uncanny talent he has for reading a teleprompter, and making it seem as if it’s all so candid, and heartfelt).

None of these negative attributes, would even for a used car salesman to be successful, …nor even a used car lot attendant, …muchless a good President of the United States!

Combined with an obvious social awkwardness, at the most important, or inopportune times (when he indeed needs to be “Presidential”), …an amazing inability to be aware of what his actions (or inactions) may do or cause, nor how they might be (mis)interpreted, …along with his continuous poor choices for doing those exactly wrong things, which make small situations blow up into big ones, …that won’t go away, …and you’ve got a President who is the worst pretender in the 44 tries this nation has made at finding a good one.

But the show must go on!!!

And sure enough, he trots out the same old dog and pony show, every time someone comes up with a new “crisis” (which he heard about on the news), or points out a new lack of leadership within his administration’s ranks.

“What??!!????”    “No one told me about this!”   (Even though he might have talked at length about such a given subject, now in “crisis”, during both his campaigns for that nifty internship thing.)

“I’m furious, …and couldn’t be more indignant!!!!”   ….goes the refrain.

“I can promise you one thing, for sure, ….that we will get to the bottom of this, and find out who’s responsible, …and make them pay the price for this!!”

“And then, by God, we’re going to fix it, because the American people (or, insert here, whatever specific group might be affected, by this new scandal of the month) deserve better than this!!!”

And blah, blah, …and more blah.     All sound familiar?

If this were a network TV show, it would have been cancelled faster than the re-make of Dynasty, …and would make the Kardashians, or Housewives of Hoboken, seem compelling!

But unfortunately, this is not a fictional series on primetime television.    Nope, we’re stuck with this baby, no matter where it shows up on the TV schedule.

Runs every day, …all day.    And has the same middle and ending scenes, with only the genesis of the problem or issue changing.

Takes quite an actor, to pull that off every time.    Especially with so many opportunities for it to go wrong, and with so much scrutiny, for all his lines and movements, on this biggest of stages.

This President, now that we’ve properly trained him (to be a first class actor, …not to be an effective President), should have endless calls from Hollywood coming his way, …and from the greatest theaters in New York, too, …for the services of such a thespian.

The Golden Globes, Emmys, and Tonys, all seem inevitable, …and an Oscar is nearly a foregone conclusion, for this talented, and well-schooled (now) player.

And if you doubt his qualifications, …remember, that his trophy case already holds a Nobel Peace Prize.

He cleverly and coyly coaxed that one out of Stockholm, after only a short few months of an Off-Broadway run of “Promises, Promises”, …also known as the 2008 American Presidential campaign.

No, never doubt it, …this man can act.      Being President?    Not so much.
