From the Other Side of the Edge….
The Cornered Rat, …Pokes at the Big Dumb Cat
By Joe Facinoli

Ever seen a rat, get caught in a corner, with no place to go and no way out?

Lights shining brightly on it, hair on end, eyes wide open, and baring its teeth, as a last resort scare tactic??

Not a pretty sight, and indeed can be a bit scary, …but only to those who think this creature is still dangerous, and allow it to be just that, …even though its life may only be a moment from the end.

Add to this scene, a big, dumb, lumbering cat, five times or more the size and strength of the rodent in question, and who thinks IT is the one in charge, and in control over all things which pass through its “House”.

The fat feline sees the annoying little rat standing in the corner, and thinks it had something to do with putting him there.

Certainly (in its cluttered mind), the cat is much stronger and has more power than its feisty counterpart, but the more agile mammal seems to do whatever it wants anyway, and usually right under the house kitty’s whiny, perpetually running nose, any time it wants.

In reality, however, the overgrown mouse has simply run past the bigger animal’s favorite sleeping spot (not the first time), and put itself in this awkward position, just as its slothy housemate happened to wake up.

Can’t go back the way he came in, can’t go forward, can’t really move at all, except to smack and poke at the nose and whiskers of the big boy who continues to block its path, in hopes the fat one will just roll over one more time, and once again ignore the rat’s foolish (and tiresome) antics.

So it is with President Obama (the “Rodent-In-Chief”), and the Republican led House of Representatives, and soon to be Senate (“Chesire Cat” imitators, if ever there were any), who have attempted to co-exist with one another, and none too peacefully, for the past six excruciating years.

The President, his ever present agenda, and smug presentation of it, always at hand, enforces whatever laws he chooses, and pays whatever little attention he feels like to the others, …not to mention to the Constitution he swore publicly (twice) to uphold.

And the Republicans let him.

The American voters dealt him, and his Democrat/Progressive/Liberal party a crushing defeat in early November, taking control of both houses of the U.S. Congress, and the same in 32 state legislatures, as well as electing GOP Governors in 31 states.

And Obama just ignores all of that.

The Republicans in Congress have him exactly where they want him, and where the majority of the country’s voters have clearly stated they prefer him to be, but all we hear from them is whining and foot stomping, and more of the same feeble words and indignant outrages.

They’ve got him, in a corner and under their fat paws.

But if recent history is any indication, he’ll be dancing past them, and around them, for the next two years.   Freely, happily, and mockingly.

And on Thursday night past, he did just that.

Presenting a new/old immigration initiative, which taken point by point, and with a few important adjustments, is not all that wrongheaded, nor counter intuitive.

But the manner in which he chooses to do this, and the method which he’s using to make this overtly transparent, purely political move happen, are in and of themselves both illegal, and completely UN-Constitutional.

And the Republicans just wring their hands.

Oh, we already hear about coming lawsuits, and filibusters, and de-funding, and the like.   But behind the scenes, most Republican lawmakers are scared to death of Obama, and the power he wields with minorities, especially now with the burgeoning Hispanic population (documented, …and not).

They not only don’t have any idea what to do about all of this, politically, but don’t seem to know just how much power they have to stop it, and exactly how much support they have from the American public, …to do just that.

They are afraid to be blamed for anything.   Afraid that someone, anyone, won’t like them, won’t give them a 100% approval rating, won’t want to hold their hand, and tell them how good looking and wonderful they are.

So they freeze up, and let the Dems, and their arrogant, lawbreaking leader, waltz right past them, time and time again.

And they might be right, to be a little nervous.   They haven’t exactly lit up the sky themselves, with ideas and well thought out planning, for our future.

They must surely know that the American public didn’t really vote for all those Republicans because they loved what they stood for, …nor how handsome or pretty they thought they were.

They voted AGAINST the policies of Obama, and by extension, his acolytes spread across the country, as well as his complete disregard for the American legal system, and truly, for our way of life.

So take heed, Big Cat, you’ve been handed an opportunity to make things dramatically better for the citizens and residents within your sphere of influence (that would be, …the entire U.S.A.).

But unfortunately, for you and your “normal” way of doing things, you will now actually have to DO something, to make those new/old, possibly exciting (based on our current state of affairs) things happen.

In the meantime, our little R.I.C. (rodent-in-chief, remember?), who finds himself stuck in that corner, due to actions of his own volition (and other stupid stuff), and after American voters yanked on his long ugly tail, and tossed him in there, …will not be going away.

He will continue to swat at the Big Dumb Cat, with his grimy little claws, on his skinny little paws, and do everything he can to make life miserable for everyone who cares, …and to advance his unacceptable agenda.

And they (all those fake smiling, multi-striped, disappearing when the going gets rough, Chesire Cats out there, who call themselves our leaders) just can’t let him do that anymore.

They have the power to stop him now, or at least to control him.   But they will have to get off their duffs, grow a collective spine, and stand up for what’s really right and just.

And stop worrying about trivial political ramifications, and how certain voting blocks (legal and illegal) will think of them.

A trapped rat will fight ‘til it can’t anymore, …or until it dies.    Now would be the time (politically), …to accommodate that.
