From the Other Side of the Edge….
“If you can’t do the Time, …then don’t do the Crime.”
By Joe Facinoli

Police departments everywhere, since the beginning of civilization, have always counted bullies, cowboys, intimidators, tormentors, and wannabe tough guys, …among their ranks.

So has all of Society, …since the beginning of time.

It’s not right, it’s not fair, and it’s certainly not civil, …but it is what it is.

For thousands of years.

And Society has always counted, among our members as well, far too many criminals, ne’er do wells, law breakers and benders, and offenders against what our civilized society offers to them, …legally and legitimately.

It’s human nature.

Cops try to do their tough jobs, day in and day out.    Some succeed at it, better than others, …and some step over the Line, sometimes.

Criminals and Bad Guys do their jobs as well, always taking the easy way, …always thinking of themselves first, …always looking to distract the Cops, and society, and to deflect any blame.

The strong, on both sides of the Law, too often take advantage of the weak, and even abuse them, …merely because they can.    Maybe to satisfy their own distorted needs, …but perhaps, to overcome their own weaknesses.

And the weak must always compensate, in their own ways, …sometimes unforgivable.

This is nothing new, …and it is not surprising.    It is simply, common human behavior, …for better or for worse.

Not good, …not what we’d want in a perfect world (and we don’t have one), …but it is what it is.

But here’s the question:    Why, whenever there is alleged abuse by our Police Forces, does everyone immediately jump past the fact, completely, that the cause of the entire conflict, was created by someone breaking the Law ??!!??

Somehow, it doesn’t seem to matter that these criminals are committing crimes, …sometimes years’ worth, …and are putting good people in harm’s way with their illegal activities, …not to mention the Cops themselves !!

How are the Police supposed to act?   Like choir boys, delicately lighting altar candles, on Easter Sunday ??

No, …the Bad Guys must blame someone for their supposed suffering, and try to distract everyone from the fact that they’ve put themselves in their own bad spot.    Never talking about breaking laws, many of them major, and all of them anti-society.

Should people die in police custody, under normal, …and civil, …circumstances?

Certainly and absolutely not.

And they are abused and/or mistreated far too much, as well, …when the wrong kind of police confront, or attempt to apprehend or subdue people, who are suspected of wrongdoing.

Not right, not fair, …definitely nothing close to civil, …but it happens, in these types of raw confrontations.

So why then, do the Bad Guys keep doing these things, …which continually put themselves in such terrible jeopardy?

And why should it be some big surprise, …when these things happen to them ??

It shouldn’t be, …not to anyone who’s been paying attention.

It’s always disappointing (to say the least), and forever tragic, time and time again, …but it should never be surprising, …given the forces of human nature at work here.

So many of these bad guy types, feel they can trample on anyone, anywhere, …and then expect to be treated with kid gloves, when the good guys catch up to them.

As if they were plucked from behind an apple cart, innocent as a new born, and then mistreated by the likes of the Dark Side’s Imperial Storm Troopers??

Some Police DO go too far, and some never see an issue with being judge, jury, and even executioner, …right from the beginning.

And some live for this, and get into the “Job” just so that they can be in control, and lord over all they encounter.

But they wouldn’t have a “Job” to do, nor anyone to control, …if there were no criminals and evil doers, …doing bad or wrong things to good people.

This fact never seems to come up, in today’s social and cultural discussions.

If you’ve done a crime, especially a life of crime, and the Po-Po is ready to grab you for it, …AND you know the history of what too many of these Cowboy Cops might do to you, once nabbed, and if you resist, …then I’ve got a helpful suggestion for you:

DON’T RUN !!!!

And don’t give them a load of crap, and don’t verbally threaten their mothers, nor their families, nor their masculinity.

And one more:   Under NO circumstances should you ever grab their gun, …nor even lay a finger on them.

Just some thoughts, based on, …oh, I don’t know, …a little common sense !

But here’s a better one:    Don’t do the crimes, …in the first place !!!

I know, much easier said than done, especially given the inner city culture in so many of our urban areas.     But it can be done.

And no matter how difficult it may be, to live a life on the straight and narrow, in the hell holes so many are forced to inhabit, …breaking the law will always have consequences, …from the legal system, hopefully, …but too often, some will come before you ever even get inside of the system.

All we hear about today is cops beating up, shooting, or killing, some poor and defenseless citizen, who just happened to be in the wrong place at a terribly wrong time.

Garbage.

Cops don’t walk into grocery stores, and accost people for buying illegal Three Bean Salad.     And people don’t get stopped on the street, because they tie their shoe strings in a double slipped, half hitch reef knot.

Police have much more important things to do.

They get after people who are doing, or have done, bad things, …or those whom they suspect of this type of behavior.    And they have a very tough job.

Sometimes they go too far, and there is no excuse when they do, but they are always dealing with the worst, most non-cooperative elements which our society has to offer, …and sometimes things happen.

Sometimes bad, inexcusable things.    And when they do, those Cops should be punished.

But, …“It takes Two to Tango”, …so if there were no bad guys, and no wrongs to right (in whatever way), then there’d be no one for the cops to confront, …and no occasion for abuse.

But somehow, all the righteously indignant, social and cultural “experts” of today (brought to us by our completely unbiased Major Media outlets), seem to forget this basic arithmetic.

It’s a very simple game, …and very easy to play.

If you obey the law, and live your life accordingly, the Police will leave you alone.

And if you do, and they don’t, then you will have legal rights to pursue, against THEM.

But if you don’t, and Law Enforcement comes after you, then don’t come crying because they mistreated you.    Too late, …by then.     You made your own bed.

Bad cops, who take the law into their own hands, who are abusive, and who mete out their own illegal “punishments”, should be weeded out, prosecuted, and jailed (or worse), when found guilty of these violations of our public trust.

But criminals should expect little mercy, when they violate that same trust, of a society who wants only to live safely and comfortably, …and without fear.

Both are bad, …and wholly unwanted.    And both should be eliminated.

But without the one, …the other would have no opportunity to exist.

Let’s not forget that.
