U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown
Happy Fourth of July

Two hundred and thirty-nine years ago a group of patriots began a grand new nation founded on a radical principle: that all men are created equal.

More than two centuries later, we are still working to form the more perfect union our forefathers envisioned, based on that fundamental value. As recent as last week with the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court ruling, we have taken another important step toward equality for all, but we know our work is not yet finished.

New generations of patriots have challenged the status quo, fighting for abolition, civil rights, women’s rights, and workers’ rights. The great American experiment that our founders began is not yet finished—it is up to each of us to continue their quest for greater freedom, justice and equality for all people.

It is that spirit that we celebrate each year on Independence Day. Americans of all stripes come together with family, friends and neighbors for parades and picnics, barbeques and fireworks. We stand united in salute to one flag, celebrating our history while working to build an even brighter future.

The American flag is one of our most important national symbols, and through my website, Ohioans can request a flag that has been flown over the United States Capitol Building. The American flag can then be shipped and delivered to your home.

Connie and I wish you a joyous and safe July 4th holiday.

Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown
U.S. Senator
