From the Other Side of the Edge….
Netanyahu:   Forthright but Faultless, Arrogant, …but so Churchill
By Joe Facinoli

Only two foreign leaders have ever addressed a Joint Session of the United States Congress, as many as different three times, …and on last Tuesday, history had a hard time separating them.

Winston Churchill.     Benjamin Netanyahu.

Who else could stand before the greatest and most important legislative body in this world, and say the things they did, …and in the way they said them ?

Two uncompromising, strong-willed men, who spoke their minds, and the truth, as only they were capable, with no care about political reaction, nor consequence, to their well-chosen words.

Two different times, to be sure, but two unrelenting and patriotic leaders, who spoke honestly and passionately against the same kind of evil, …in more than just potential.

The Free World could not have survived without the words and efforts of Winston Churchill, during World War II.

And once again today, Free People, …those with simple needs, a little common sense, and who are once again diminishing in numbers, …are hoping that we will not be put to that same test.

Thankfully, we have Israel, and its dynamic leader Benjamin Netanyahu, …standing in Churchill’s place today.

To push once again for the same slow moving, slow to react, politics-first United States, to act in an intelligent, what’s-truly-best-for-the-people-of-the-world-in-the-long-run, manner, …and to do the Right Thing.

Good luck with that, these days, …Bibi.

The biggest difference between the times of today, versus those of the 1930s and 40s, is not the enemies we face, nor the gallantry of the solitary leaders who have stood tall to fight against them, …no, the sad and shameful difference is in the character and agenda of the two fundamentally dissimilar U.S. Presidents, during these two eras.

Because while Franklin D. Roosevelt had his flaws, and was as arrogant and self-centered as any man to hold that office, he was at the same time dedicated to the rights, security, and future of the country he loved, and had devoted his life to serving.

And he knew how to surround himself with the best people available, and how and when to listen to them, as well as those otherwise politically opposed to him, in order to meet the common goals of a good people.

He nurtured a friendship with Churchill, which became quite genuine, in an effort to meet those goals, and convince an isolationist Congress and nation that the well-being of other countries, Great Britain in particular, directly affected that of the U.S.

FDR embraced the oratorical gifts of the great English statesmen, and their powers to persuade, as together they knew that words and negotiations, and “appeasement”, of their insatiable, tyrannical foes, …would never be enough.

They recognized early on, just who and what they were up against, …Churchill because he was under actual attack and bombardment, …Roosevelt because he knew instinctively what eventually had to be done, …and worked as one to do whatever was necessary, in whatever way, to save the world.

Barack Obama has no clue about any of that.

No knowledge of history, no instincts for world affairs, ..nor who and what real threats are, …no inclination to extend himself to anyone, muchless to someone who, like Churchill, is also under actual (and constant) attack, and just might have a bit more worldly experience, …than some “community organizer” from Chicago.

No, BHO is just a petulant child, who thinks he has an idea of how the world should be, and has never taken the time to evaluate his own thoughts and policies, nor ever displayed any desire to engage with anyone else, to that end.

Obama sees Netanyahu as an affront to his political well-being, and nature, …instead of as an invaluable companion and asset, against a threat common to both countries, and by extension, to the entire planet.

Childish silliness, and mindless adherence to a philosophy, …over truth and reality.

Churchill himself spoke to this point, when he said, in his wonderfully sarcastic, and always spot on way:

“However beautiful the strategy, …you should occasionally look at the results.”

Obama has so isolated himself within his own deluded, distorted, and not-as-intelligent-as-he-thinks mind, …that political results are all he ever cares about, and he spins those (and lies about them), to whatever effect best works for him (and no one else), at any given moment.

Netanyahu is the exact opposite.

His message is always the same, …always about Israel and other freedom loving citizens of the world first, …and is tirelessly unabated.

He speaks to every issue directly, pulls no punches, and cares little about the political repercussions, other than what effects his country, …now, and in the future.

He is the Churchill of today.

Yes, he is arrogant.    So was Churchill.

Yes, he speaks the bold, unfiltered truth, no matter whose sensitivities, or political agenda, that might offend.     So did Churchill.

And the two men demonstrated their courage in the line of fire, even as they were isolated on the one side, by a world seemingly unwilling to lift a hand, nor use any common sense, against an enemy on the other side, who had them boxed in, literally.

Sir Winston sat on an island, withstanding bombing missions and rocket attacks daily, as he waited doggedly for the United States to understand what Nazi Germany would do to the world, if America did not come to their aid.

Bibi Netanyahu is also on an island, of sorts, surrounded by foes of many stripes (but of only one “religion”), all of whom, at one time or another, have tried to take him, his countrymen, and his entire country, out of the picture completely.

And as was England back then, he and Israel are under near constant attack today as well, or the threat of it, defending daily against rocket attacks, invasion attempts, and political assassination, by word and deed.

So when the Israeli Prime Minister was criticized for being politically opportunistic, in the timing of his speech to Congress last week, or chided for being politically incorrect, in his harsh words and stances regarding an Iran which professes nothing but deadly hatred for him, and his beloved country, …we can go to Mr. Churchill’s words and advice, once more.

Near the end of World War I, in 1919, while encouraging a political ally whom had become frustrated by several vain attempts to have his opinion heard, and acted upon, …the Great Man advised his associate:

“If you have an important point to make, …don’t try to be subtle nor clever.   Use a pile driver.   Hit it once, …then come back, and hit it again.   Then hit it a third time.”

Subtlety was never part of Churchill’s game, …and he couldn’t have cared less about this omission from his methods.    His results speak for themselves.

Netanyahu is no less subtle, and cares no more about that, than Sir Winston did.

Now, …if only the world would listen to him, as well they finally did to Churchill’s fervent pleas, …then we might actually have a chance to survive the worldwide onslaught of radical, fanatic Islam, and other such atrocities.

Political correctness, …nor even political discretion, …has no place in the battle against murderous, genocidal tyranny.

This is now a war of survival, …which Obama, and too many well-placed others within the United States, simply refuse to recognize.

Stay after them, Mr. Netanyahu, …and please ignore all the political posturing, and petty nonsense.     The world is depending on you.

And, …Sir Churchill is watching.
