Along Life’s Way
Be Green—It’s Spring!
By Lois E. Wilson

Are you counting down the days until Spring and St. Patrick’s Day? Those are times when the color “green” is in fashion. It is the color of renewal. The color often ends up in my verses for different reasons.  Here are a few examples:

IT'S NOT EASY BEING
A businessman who was in a big rush
Entered a restroom with fixtures quite plush.
He was pledged to be "green;"
So he hasn't been seen.
He can’t get its high-tech toilet to flush!

THE “GREEN” THUMB
It is not always accidental;
Most houseplants are temperamental.
Some want soil moist; others want it dry.
Some need low light; many more need high.
      Directions may advise
      How much to fertilize.
When you think their conditions are right,
You wake to find they’ve died overnight.

THE GOOD “GREEN”
At your new job have they called you green?
Made you believe you’re the worst they’ve seen?
Just know that when your work is zealous,
Some grow green with envy; they’re jealous.
So all your concerns be sure to shed.
Think—green also means full speed ahead.

THE OLD REFRAIN
Such a sober old man was Mike Dean
As he waited for March seventeen.
On that date every year,
He would hoist just one beer—
To toast Irishmen wearin’ the green!

This season, enjoy wearing the green. And while you’re at it, plant some “green” too!
