Musings of a Senior Scribe
Subliminal or Not?
By Mona Lease

Hi, all!! I've been watching for the last 20 years or so and I think I'll share this with you. I find this rather unique. Admittedly - I've partaken of the following scenarios to see what would happen.

Wikipedia defines "subliminal" as - "Below the threshold of conscious perception - stimuli inadequate to produce conscious awareness but, able to evoke a response (subliminal message).

Fred is dead sure that Wilma is cheating on him. The neighbors report what looks like bad behavior. Fred gets his neighbor buddy Barney and his wife Betty to watch Wilma. Yep, yep - here's the vehicles, plate numbers, etc.

Then Barney quits his job and takes a volunteer position. Next, Betty goes to work 3rd shift. Life was good for them - 2 kids, house, swimming pool, friends, Friday night barbeques, etc. Now, Betty works and Barney keeps up with the Friday night barbeques. Usual story readers - Put the kiddies to bed and we'll take a late night dip in the pool. Betty and Barney split and divorce because she caught him cheating - home early with a bad headache.

This one amuses me the most - Tommy Tutone and his wife Trixie argue. Tommy tells a buddy about it. The buddy tells his wife. The wife has already spoken with Trixie. However, Tommy 's and Trixie's stories do not match. Now we add a new couple fighting over problems that are not theirs' - neither wanting to admit that their friends could have been exaggerating or outrightly lying - maybe for "effect." If the original "problem" was the way that Tommy hung the toilet paper, you can bet that the friends attention will be drawn their toilet paper. And whomever they tell will at least consider the over/under of their toilet paper. See how this stuff multiplies? And, in the case of  Fred/Wilma and Barney/Betty - they found what they were seeking. Sadly, the cheating that Barney set out to find for his friend, came to roost in his own home and his own moral fiber.

And, thanks to Alan Greiner for submitting the following to a local newspaper. I think it tells the story most perfectly.  "As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts' desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a  down right fool and complete narcissistic moron." - H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920. (H.L. Mencken 1880 - 1956. Journalist, Satirist, & Critic.)

Happy Father's Day to all you Daddies out there. Keep your yesses yes and your noes NO.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Be good to the furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
