Cat and Mouse
By Mona Lease

Hi, all!! It was brought to my attention that a girl I know in name only, was booked into our Darke County Jail - again. Now - I'm gonna sidestep what continual use of drugs - any drugs - legal or illegal - does to your body. I'll sidestep the fact that everyone has someone that loves them, does not want to and can not watch you destroy yourself. The point to this column is:

I've heard all my life - "friggin' pigs - ain't they got nothin' better to do than arrest and harass people that just want to "celebrate" or "let off some steam"  - I'm not hurting anyone - I'm not contributing to minors - I'm not selling to minors, etc." I'll sidestep the morality and/or legality of all of this, too.

I've heard people say  - "The cop has  "a quota to fill" or he (the cop) had a bad night with the old lady and took it out on me, etc." I'll sidestep that, too.

Now for my point - yea, I know I took the long way to get to it:

Once you have committed a crime - any of the crimes - you are "marked" - as it were. With such a heavy concentration of effort being put into our local drug problem - why would you show yourself in public - under the influence of an illegal substance? Don't you people see that's just putting peanut butter on the proverbial mousetrap? In the same way that certain poisons are spread out so that the "infected pests" will take the poison back to the hive, den or nest to infect or kill the rest of the hive.....so law enforcement will follow you. Why would you bother to deal the stuff? Yea - I heard your comment about Narcan or whatever it is you bought hoping to reverse an overdose. What if there are too many overdoses and not enough Narcan? If you call the police - you will be arrested. They're not going to show up, save you and say good-bye to you. What if the "cook" of this stuff cuts it with something the makers of Narcan did not think they would use? What if you don't have enough Narcan - like maybe it only took half as much of the Narcan as the container said it would - so you save the rest....only to use it and find it's not enough - and someone dies? There are no guarantees to life - or drugs - even legal scrip drugs...what will make me sick might do nothing to you. And what if you do enough "stuff" and there's always a residual of it in your body? In the case of scrip drugs - the Drs want there to always be a certain level of the prescribed drug in the body for maximum health effect/benefit. That's why they monitor this through blood tests. That's also why people are monitored for levels - good and toxic for scrip meds...like oxycodone, percadan, percaset, etc. They know how much should be in your system when you take the medication as prescribed, through regular blood testing. Any other medication......even over-the-counter stuff - has the potential to make a residual level of any drug in your body go to the toxic level.

So - I guess the question here is: Do you want to be the peanut butter on the trap? Notice any trap is set with something good to lure the prey. You people are the good stuff - by the way.

Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
