Just Wondering
By Mona Lease

Hi, all!! Happy Belated Resurrection Day or Happy Belated Easter!! There's so much happening, it's hard to keep up with it all in a weekly column. For the faint of heart - you will probably want to stop reading here.

I've been hearing and reading that we need God back in our schools and on our money. Take a minute or two to think about that...really think about it. My mind goes on a different track - I've shared that with you readers. So - as I understand this - putting God back in the schools and on our money will solve a few problems - namely drug use...terrorist activity, etc.

Taking a look backward in my life...with God in our schools and on our money, I've seen: In school we said the Pledge of Allegiance and had a silent moment of prayer every morning. In every classroom was a teacher ready to hand out detentions if the need arose.....but I saw no God. In every classroom was a teacher ready to help you if you needed it...but I saw no God. In a few classrooms there hung a paddle with a teacher ready to get another teacher to be a witness and use the paddle....but I saw no God.

In the lunchroom I saw cooks who kept watch for the "special needs" - physical, dietary, etc....but I saw no God. I saw teachers in the lunchroom making sure there were no food fights and that empty trays were deposited where they waited to be washed...but I saw no God. I saw the Janitor at the ready, to clean up any messes....but I saw no God.

On the playground at recess, I saw always two teachers "pulling recess duty" to make sure no one beat up another kiddie, no cussing, etc....but I saw no God.

In gym class I saw a Teacher show us how to exercise to keep fit. In music class I saw a Teacher show us "music around the world"...Latin, German, African, etc.....but I saw no God.

After school's dismissal, I saw kiddies who were "Crosswalk Guards" ensuring that other kiddies could cross the street safely - and many parents around watching, too....but I saw no God.

Walking home I saw older kids raking leaves, shoveling snow, carrying groceries ,etc. I saw elderly people sitting on their porches watching us go about our day's activities. I saw Daddies arriving home from work or leaving to go to work. I saw seasonal games being played in an empty lot - football or baseball. I saw Mommies hanging laundry on the clothesline or removing it from the clothesline. I saw older kids playing in the yards with their younger brothers and sisters. I saw kids mowing the lawn or pulling weeds from the line fence...but I saw no God.

I saw Boy Scout Troops building things in the Park. I saw Daddies donating their time to help the boys earn badges. I saw Girl Scouts with their Scout Leaders doing the same stuff - and cooking Mulligan Stew in a pot over an open fire....but I saw no God.

I have two questions: 1) When we say we want God back in our schools and on our money - are we really wanting Him to do the work? 2) If we are not doing the work now, then are we waiting for someone to tell us to do the work - maybe waiting on this God to tell us?

Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
