Creatures of (Bad) Habit?
By Mona Lease

Greetings, Gals!! Well - don't just skip the exercise here. But...take another "think" here on what you actually do during the day. Some exercises are for professional body-builders. Most women find that toning up what they already have is sufficient. Summer weather is here...Enjoy!!

27 Common Anti-Aging Tips That You Should Forget Immediately - Alex Daniel, Quicker, 5/8/2019

 1) Water can plump your skin: Dermatologist Fayne Fry says drinking water is essential to your health. It doesn't actually provide extra moisture to fight the aging of your skin. Stick with the recommended eight glasses of water a day...which benefits everything from organ health to energy levels.

 2) The more expensive the product, the better: Zero in on the ingredients that every product contains. Read the concentration of ingredients. A higher concentration is better.

 3) Getting a blood facial will make your skin look better: Called the "vampire facelift"...a few tubes of your own blood is drawn, spun in a centrifugal unit until is separates into separate components. The plasma is then injected back into your face. Plastic surgeon Patti Flint says there is no real evidence that this works.

 4) Alternating shower temperatures will rejuvenate your skin: There is no evidence that this hot-to-cold-to-hot method actually works.

 5) A bird poop facial will brighten your skin: Poop from a Japanese nightingale was the "in thing" a few years hence. Most scientists have yet to prove this "interesting" alternative.

 6) Cucumber slices will eliminate bags under your eyes: While cucumbers alleviate swelling and redness temporarily, the antioxidants they contain will not actually work to eliminate the dark circles says Dr. Gregory Nikolalaidis, dermatologist.

 7) Facial exercises help fight wrinkling: No, facial exercises do not prevent your skin from developing wrinkles. They often do more harm than good. Some dermatologists say that repeated facial contortions exacerbate existing wrinkles.

 8) An oxygen facial will plump up your skin: There is little evidence to support this.

 9) It's best to use every product in an anti-aging skin care line: To preserve your skin's vibrancy as you age, remember skin care products still contain ingredients that are liable to drain moisture from your skin.

10) You should use retinol every day: This is an incredibly powerful source of collagen-producing vitamin A for your skin. Only use it a couple of times a week.

11) You can make effective anti-aging treatments with items in your kitchen: Many of these might contain allergens and ingredients that work against your skin.

12) Aging is determined by your genes: Yes, aging is determined by your genes and by the habits you develop during your lifetime, either shorten or lengthen your lifespan as well as dictate your quality of life.

13) Moisturizers prevent aging: Dr. Michelle Levy, dermatologist, says that moisturizers, on their own, do not prevent skin aging.

14) Limiting the amount you smile will prevent wrinkles: Wrinkles around your mouth are due to your skin's diminishing elasticity, says Dr. Anthony Rossi, dermatologist.

15) Removing make-up before bed prevents wrinkles: Many dermatologists agree on removing your make-up before bed. This allows the skin to breathe...not that it will actually keep your skin looking younger.

16) Avoid stress to avoid going gray: It's been proven that stress causes us to age less gracefully. The "graying process" is more complicated. Stress can impact the survival of melanocytes (stem cells that give our hair it's pigment)...but, stress and gray hair have not been linked.

17) Antioxidants can reverse aging: Nothing can actually reverse the process of aging. You will never be able to consume enough anti-oxidant foods to reverse the signs of aging.

18) Hormone supplements can prevent age-related frailty: This can be a dangerous option if you're looking to turn back the clock on aging. This supplement can throw off your body's hormone levels  causing women to produce more testosterone and men more estrogen.

19) Cutting calories will extend your lifespan: Cutting calories has no proven effect on your lifespan. Dr. Luigi Fontana says the way organisms sense nutrients is more likely a factor that contributes to aging.

20) Cutting carbs will extend your lifespan: Our bodies need carbs. Processed carbs are bad for you. Carbs in fruits and vegetables will keep your body happy and healthy well into your golden years.

21) Stocking up on massive amounts of protein will keep your body young and strong: There is a limit to how much protein you should be consuming. It's less than you think. Eat a chicken breast and you've fulfilled your daily allowance of protein - .4 grams of protein per pound of body weight, daily.

22) Stick to low-intensity workouts if you're over 50: Researchers found that those over the age of 65, who participated in high-intensity interval training, experienced a reversal of age-related muscle deterioration. Don't wimp out on your exercise routine just because you're aging.

23) Diet supplements can slow down the aging process: These can work to keep your body healthy. Taking them alone will do nothing to reverse the aging process.

24) You don't need to wear sunscreen in the winter: Slather on sunscreen no matter the season. Even office lighting and your phone screen can be harmful.

25) Lasers can get rid of signs of aging on our skin: These are definitely not a cure-all for aging skin. If you have more than 20 years worth of damage to your skin...a laser won't provide much relief.

26) Topical creams that contain vitamin C can fight aging: These do have the power of vitamin C to fight your skin's aging.  Creams containing this destabilize very quickly. Buy from a reputable brand. In terms of the aging process, this one might as well be surpassed.

27) Preparation H can help remove under eye circles: This does restrict the blood vessels to temporarily stop puffiness and redness. The risks far outweigh the rewards. Getting this in your eyes and severely damaging them would cause a far greater issue.

The best is yet  to be!!
