county teams will be in action this week in basketball
tournaments. Greenville will be playing at
Celina while Arcanum will be
in action at the Jet tournament along with Tri-Village and Troy
Christian
starting Monday. Mississinawa Valley will take to the road
for the annual tournament to be held this
year at Union High School
with Union City in the Border Wars Tournament. Area wrestlers will be
in

Annual tournaments
headline Christmas break

DARKE COUNTY-With Christmas 2011 in the books, the annual tournaments
are about to get underway as the boys take center stage in basketball.
Monday - Things in the county get kicked into high gear when the annual
Jet Basketball Tournament tips off at Franklin Monroe. Monday will see
the Tri-Village Patriots and Arcanum Trojans square off in the opener.
The Trojans are coming off their first victory of the season Friday
against Mississinawa Valley. Tri-Village will look to remain undefeated
and remain as one of the best teams in the Dayton area. Franklin Monroe
will tangle with Troy Christian in the nightcap. The Eagles are in the
tournament for the first time, taking the place of Versailles, who will
be hosting its own tournament later in the week. The Jets will conclude
on Tuesday starting with the consolation game starting at 6:30 p.m. on
both nights.
Wednesday - The Versailles Lady Tigers will visit Greenville in a girls
varsity only basketball game. Also, the Mississinawa Valley boys and
girls bowling teams will head to Ft. Recovery for a 10 a.m. girls match
with the boys set to roll at 1 p.m.
Thursday - The fourth annual Border Wars basketball tournamet will
tip-off at Union in Modoc, Indiana. The annual tounament started four
years ago at Mississinawa Valley before going to Union City and Ansonia
a year ago, and will conclude Friday with start times of 6 p.m.
Also on Thursday, the first ever Versailles basketball tournament will
take place. In the innaugural game, the Anna Rockets and Miami East
Vikings will lock horns in what should be the equal of a brass knuckles
fist fight. The nightcap will feature host Versailles and Brookville
which promises to be another good battle.
The consolation and championship games will be contested Friday
starting at 6 p.m. in addition, the Wave boys will be participating in
the annual Holiday Shootout, at the Celina Fieldhouse. That tournament
also concludes on Friday,
The Franklin Monroe Lady Jets and Arcanum Lady Trojans will face each
other in Arcanum while Mississinawa Valley will travel to Tri-County
North to take on the Lady Panthers. The Lady Railroaders will host Troy
Christian in a 5:30 game.
The Greenville wrestlers will be ready to hook up with other area
grapplers at Wright Starte University in a Thursday/Friday event.
The Ansonia and Mississinawa Valley bowlers will be in competition at
Woodcrest Lanes in Union City starting st 3 p.m.
Saturday - The Versailles Lady Tigers will face Ft. Loramie at
Versailles starting at noon.
